Philippines questioned the US position on the South China Sea



 
HBSNews.com - Philippine President-elect Rodrigo Duterte questioned the US position on the South China Sea, would be on his side, or the side of China.

In a speech at a business forum in the southem city of Davao, Duterte said Mutual Defense Treaty in 1951 between the allies did not necessarily require Uncle Sam helps if the Philippines and China at odds over territorial disputes.

The last meeting Duterte and the US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg discuss this issue.

"Are you with us, or not (in the South China Sea)," asked the mayor of Davao, as quoted by the Japan Times, (23/06)

Goldberg then replied, "Only if you are attacked."

This conversation has been heard the United States goverment itself. They do not say much, but the US-Philippine alliance mentioned very closely and the country superpower stick to the agreements that have been agreed in advance.

"President Obama has clearly stated we stand with our commitment to the Philippines, it's like we do together with other allies in the field of defense," sad a spokeswoan dor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bureau o East Asian and Pasific.

Philippines are now waiting for their status of filing a lawsuit in interbational court in the Hague, Netherlands, to find a definitive decision under the Law of the Sea to the South China Sea region.

China alone reportedly upset over the filing of the lawsuit. They accused the Philippine political prvocation. Bamboo Curtain country vowed reject anything Hague court ruling and asked the Philippines to negotiate  directly with them to resolve the South China Sea dispute.
