White House is the workplace and official residence of the president of the United States. The building is made of Aquia stone, painted white, and built in the style of late Georgian architecture.

Construction began in 1792 and was completed in 1800. The history of the White House began when President George Washington signed an Act Congress in December 1790, which states that the federal government area will be located in the district who do not "exceed ten miles to the River Potomac".
Preseident George Washington along with Pierre L'Enfant, a citry planer, decided directly at the siteof where exactly the presidential residence will be built. The location is now known as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Ocne the location is set, then held a contest to determine the design of the presidential residence to be built. Nine plans submitted. Finally, the draft created by James Hoban, an Irish-born architecr selected. Although the construction overseen by the White House of President Washington, he never lived in it. John Adams was the first president to occupy the White House with his wife, Abigail, when the construction is nearing completion. Since then, every US president in the White House and each of them have made additions or changes
The White House once burned by the British in 1814. The exterior walls were painted white for the first time after the reconstruction after the fire. In 1990, or 176 years after the fire scars are still visible when the wall restorted.
Another fire occurred in 1929 in the West Wing, during the time of President Herbent Hoover. Except the third loor, most of the intersior was renovated during the tenure of President Harry S. Truman.
